- Family: My tea time gives me a sense of my identity. The origin of tea-time in Pakistani culture comes from British colonialism. I grew up seeing tea time as a means to showcase hospitality and a big part of the culture. If a guest shows-up at home, they are immediately offered tea and snacks.Ā Also, It is very common in Pakistan for restaurants to offer a high-tea menu from 3-6 pm.Ā Ā

After moving to America, I kept my tea-time because my mom is a big tea drinker. Thus, I embrace my love for tea because of her. We both love drinking tea and munching on snacks. Surprisingly, I am the only one amongst my siblings that drinks tea! I have grown to see tea-time being a part of my Pakistani identity because I can relate to other Pakistani, who love tea. Most importantly, I love cooking traditional Pakistani snacks for tea, which keeps my connection strong to the culture.
After moving to college, I realized the impact of tea-time has on family values. I would love going back home for Summer vacation and having tea parties. It gave me a sense of family and being Pakistani. The 15-20 minutes spent for tea-time are a great way to start conversation and relax with family. Sometimes, we donāt have time to sit at the breakfast or dinner table to have a conversation with family. A few minutes of tea-time can give you a sense of comfort and quality time spent with family. My non-tea drinking family members enjoy tea snacks and juices.

I compiled recommendations on how to create the perfect ambiance for tea-time. Also, I love exploring local places for tea time, which I will share in my other blogs.
