Why I hosted the International Tea Party?

Let the pictures speak for themselves! On September 15 2021, I hosted my first international tea party to showcase my passion for tea time. My goal was to showcase metro-Detroit’s rich diverse culture. You have to experience tea-time culture yourself to create your own memories. I have seen a number of growth in Metro Detroit of bakeries and cafes. My experience with tea-time is based on my Pakistani identity, in which tea-time consists of a wide array of baked goods, finger foods, juices, and street snacks. My tea story is based on one tea leaf and tea culture. I wanted to host an event that brings in various cultures together and showcases the beauty of tea.
THE SETUP
I wanted to demonstrate the hospitality culture that comes with tea-time and drinking tea throughout the globe. To arrange such a unique event, Eleanor’s cafe was the perfect place because they offer a wide variety of coffee/ tea drinks and have the perfect cafe vibes. The tea party was arranged into three tables: European, Middle Eastern, and South Asian, which consist of snacks from local Metro-Detroit vendors. Tea companies like Davidson’s Tea and Mina contribute various flavors of tea for the event. Also, I received great support from Baraka products and Krogers, which were part of each tea-time table. I have been getting many questions about vendors and tea-party set-up in detail. I will share more details and suggestions on the next blog.

This is how I think about tea: regardless of how different each tea is in color, texture, and taste the common element will always be water. The international tea-party is an exhibition of cultures similar to our teas from around the world. People enjoying laughter and munching on tea snacks from around the world is the water element. I hope to host more tea party events.
