Happiness Through Food and Tea: Winter Days

It’s 5 pm in Michigan, I look out the window it’s pitch dark. I want to go outside for some activities but that’s an extra challenge leaving the house with the toddler diaper bag, car seat, stroller, extra clothing, making sure a place has a high chair, worrying about cold/flu spreading and the list continues. My favorite seasons are Spring and Summer with long breezy sunny days with beautiful colorful vibes. I want to make the best of these cold dark nights and create memories of a lifetime. I use these few hacks to clear my mind and create my in-house happiness through food and tea.

My Winter Cheer Guide

Oil Massage:  Relaxing your body is the ultimate guide to feeling refreshed. I have linked below two of my homemade oil massages. Let me know which one you try!

  1. Olive Oil Turmeric Rub:  1 cup of olive oil with one tea spoon of turmeric. You need to warm the olive oil on the stove for 3-5 mins and mix the turmeric well. Massage your body and leave the rub for 30 minutes. Be careful when using this rub as turmeric stains are hard to leave.
  2. Ghee Almond Rub

Have a delightful treat: No, I don’t mean just sitting on the couch and nibbling on snacks.  Eat food that brings you joy, but doesn’t overeat. For example, I create a list of treats and I spread them throughout the week. For example, I made smores sandwiches with my niece and nephew on Saturday. Then on Monday, I baked chicken patties for my family.

Dressing up: It’s very difficult to dress up or wear something nice with a toddler finding a new way to ruin my clothes. However, my mood changes instantly by wearing a little bit of makeup and nice clothes at home. I feel more energetic and empowered by dressing up.  As I am dressing up, it a great joy wearing bright color hijabs and I feel blessed having so many options in my wardrobe. Also, I have the choice to have my own wardrobe and I don’t feel pressurized by society to change my clothing.

Tea-Time: My life is all about surrounding myself with creating happiness and trying to be positive. Tea-time in winter is perfect to get through the long dark nights. I have noticed many people have misconceptions about tea-time. They think it should be a luxury fancy “Alice and the Wonderland” setup. My goal is to create a comfortable tea time for my daily usage. I like to make easy to make teas and bring delightful snacks. Herbal teas for the season gives warm cozy vibes and give a sense of peace. I will write detail list of herbal teas for the winter in next blog.
